University College Cork
First-class teaching and world-class research keep UCC on the cutting edge. UCC provides the perfect environment for all to succeed and excel. We aspire to lead the thinking rather than follow it, building character, fulfilling potential and shaping the world we live in. Many successful leaders, inventors, artists, scientists, professionals and politicians are part of our heritage – George Boole, first Professor of Mathematics at UCC, developed the foundations of the information age here in Cork.
UCC offers a world-class student experience with the highest quality teaching, learning and research. With an emphasis on independent learning, there is a rich and dynamic range of opportunities for students to engage with. Students are encouraged to challenge ideas in a community environment that offers top-quality pastoral care for all.
Our mission at UCC is to inspire you to be better than the rest. We will engage with you and help you to reach your potential and your goals. This remains the most important thing we do and have been doing since the establishment of this university in 1845. We want you to receive the best education possible at third level and go further if you wish. We want you to be proud of your University and the advantages you have received, and we want you to excel in all that you do.
UCC graduates, prominent in politics, medicine, industry, science, public service and in the arts around the globe, share a common bond through their alma mater. They also remember with affection that student life at UCC is a wonderful experience on a cosmopolitan campus that helped to change their lives.
There is of course much more to university life than your studies. There are over one hundred and thirty sporting clubs and societies from which to choose. You will meet students from more than one hundred nations represented in the student body. You will have state-of-the-art technology to help you with study on and off campus and you will have all the back-up you would expect in a modern, outward looking university.
UCC offers degree and professional programmes in schools across the University’s four Colleges:
- Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences
- Business and Law
- Science, Engineering and Food Science
- Medicine and Health
Choose wisely and remember that we are on hand to offer any further advice you may need. This is your new beginning – your journey. By electing to study at UCC, you will have taken the first important step.
